Does an Indian student in USA have to file income tax return in India?
Hi all, I am an Indian student (citizen), currently studying in USA. Do I have to file an income tax return in India. I do earn some income on investments in India and I do have a PAN card as well. Also, for taxation purposes, am I a NRI? Thank you

You should know more about income tax laws in India than Americans would.

You are a resident of USA and you should submit your income return at USA: if you have any property and other income in India, you should submit the returns in India through your auditor better to consult an auditor:

Yes you are classified as an NRI, and if you have taxable income in India from your investments than it is best you file your returns regularly. Some TDS may have been deducted by the Company with whom investments may have been made. This will enalble you to claim the deductions or appropriate such deductions from tax payable.

It is mandatory to file the income tax return in India if you have income in India... For your status as NRI you must be out of India for more than 182 days in a year...
