Honestly, I think the attacks on Indian Students are from ignorant stupid young men that have been brought up badly by their families. I live in Brisbane, we have a very large Indian community here, many students, many Sikhs (hope I spelt that correctly) and many Indian families and shop keepers. I have never ever seen in my travels around any disrespect directed toward Indian Students or Indian permanent residents of Australia. I think if the ignorant stupid 'lets go out and cause trouble' young men were by themselves, not a thing would happen. They do what they do because they are cowards, ignorant, and if their mothers knew what they got up to, they would be in big trouble.

No, they are not safe. They are not welcomed into Australia!

safer than india if you travel late on trains to bad areas what do you expect? when you get robbed you ring india first instead of the police so there is no chance of the robbers being caught you behave stupidly in any country in the world , like india then you pay the price

no personally i don't. but just for the record, every new minority that has migrated to Australia has initially had some difficulty, i.e. when my grandfather migrated here from europe he felt a bit picked on but overall found Australians to be friendly people who were ignorant in their discrimination, it wasn't it out of hate. there are a lot of bashings which don't involve indians. it's not a white-hating-brown people situation. when you hear the word 'Australian' it also means asian, middle-eastern, polynesian, eastern europe (italians/greeks), etc.

Australia is as safe as any other country for the Indians ...... some rowdies are there in every city of any country ....it hardly generalises the over all environment

if you are worried about safety- stay out of Sydney! they have racial gangs there and the racism is brutal. everywhere else in the country it is perfectly safe- but if you are still worried about discrimination based on your race- stay out of the country. You don't have to come here so what is all the fuss about? Most of us never gave a fig either way about what race you are but I am really starting to develop a hate for indians simply because they won't let go of the topic! Plus that forum you linked to- there is just a topic, nobody has replied to it and the way it is worded it is a hate case! EDIT- what's so great about India anyway? a question I answered after your had some interesting statistics- maybe you should look at where India is before going off about Australia being unsafe! http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capitahttp://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita

it is disgusting that the government is bringing so many foreigners into the country. i am by no means a rascist - i accept people of all cultures but what is happening now is over the top, let me explain. 1. the people being brought over from india can barely speak english and have virtually no skills (i'm sorry but im sure we have enough indian cooks in the country) 2. they bring their whole freaking families over from india, marry indians who all move over here. 3. because of the way india is most of the people who come here are arrogant and rude (not everyone but most) they are PUSHY. in 10 years australia will be like america with the hispanic workers doing all the blue-collar work (trademen, cleaners etc) except indian. multiculturalism is a fantastic thing. it brings diversity and we can learn about other cultures but what is starting in australia is going too far! there have been only a few case of violence against indians, and it is perfectly safe in australia.

Stay out of the big cities, come to canberra instead, we have great Universities here and lots of students come here from overseas to study. I work with a girl from Sri Lanka who is studying Accounting at the University of Canberra after doing a year in Sydney and she says Canberra is much better.
