What do women who live in India do when they get their period?
My roommate is and international student from India. She did not know how to use feminine hygiene (still doesn't know about tampons), and I was just wondering how this could be so? What do they do when it's their time of the month? She uses pads, but she didn't know how to used them. With my tampon comment, I think they are easier and less of a hassle, so she's missing out.

good question i always wondered about what the medival ladies did.. i heard about some iron thing that protected them from cheating on their husbands? ugh

I'm sure they use cloth as "pads" or another alternative.

In many countries in this world information about hygiene is still very poor. For sure India and many Asian and African countries are not what we might call clean countries. - Personal feelings about hygiene is even low with people, who qualify as international students and are able to travel overseas. I have seen women - financially not poor at all - from such countries, who took a shower once a month and during period, they put a piece of cloth like a handkerchief or small towel or tissue-papers into their panties. Many women from these countries do not care much about their period. They understand even there are tampons and similar products made for period for sale everywhere, but they feel they do not need that products for themselves.

I'm from Asia. So I guess I know. There are two types of Indians : those who live in city, and those who don't. Those who live in cities know sanitary pad. But they rarely use or even know tampons. Why? Because in Asia, virginity is important. Tampons are not popular because it may break someone's virginity, at least in the eyes of Asians. Sanitary pads are more common. But not everybody can afford it.
