Hi, 1: Depending on your education level ( what are you going to study: Bachelor's, Master's MBA?), appear for the SAT (Bachelors), GRE (Masters), or GMAT (MBA). 2: Appear for the TOEFL test. 3: Select the few universities are interested in ( I suggest applying to around 7 universities), fill out their online application forms by their respective deadlines, and send them your school mark-sheets (9-12th), two/three letters of recommendation from your teachers, and any forms specifically asked by the university. Also send them your SAT/GRE/GMAT and TOEFL scores from their respective websites (SAT: collegeboard.com, TOEFL: ETS.org). 4: If selected in any university, they'll send u an I-20 form, which u will use to apply for a student visa (F1 visa). Also for the visa you'll need other documents, check on US Embassy website of your nearest city. 5: If granted a visa, pay university fees by credit card or wire transfer. 6: Book a plane ticket and off you go! Best of Luck!

I will be going from India to UK on a student VISA but via Amsterdam. Do i need a Transit Visa for Amsterdam?
While i travel from India to UK on a student VISA, i have a connecting flight through Amsterdam. So i was wondering if one require a transit visa for the same. I have heard that Indian Nationals do not require a transit visa for Netherlands. is that true? Kindly throw some light on it...

You have heard right. Indian passport holders only need an Airport Transit Visa (ATV, type A) for the following Schengen countries: Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Slovakia, Spain. The ATV requirement is waived for those who hold a valid visa for Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Japan, Romania, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America. You can transit via Amsterdam without a visa provided that you: • continue your journey to a third country on a connecting flight • hold a ticket with confirmed seats for your next destination • hold all documents required for your next destination • have your luggage checked through to your final destination • do not leave the airport transit area Source(s): EU-Visa Code, Article 3, 5. Indian National do require a transit visa for UK, refer to DATV list of the Uk Border Agency.
2 :
Whether you will be granted leave to remain for 24 hours depends on the discretion of the UK Border Agency Officer. India is on the list of Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) nationals which even require a visa if they stay within the International Airport of a British airport. .. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa/visadatvnationals .. This visa requirement is however exempted under certain circumstances; one of these is holding a valid U.S. visa and a flight ticket. Based on this exemption you may be granted a 24 hours visa free transit. ..http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf20transit#Q6 .. A transit without visa is in general granted if a passenger arrives at another London airport than he/she departs from. Since your purpose of stay is not transit but tourist visit the Border Agency Officer may either grants you to leave the airport as an exception or deny your request since there is no actual need for it and you may stay in the transit zone. Just give it a try! I would not go ahead and apply for a visitors visa in advance; £46 for just a couple of hours is a waste of money.
